Dave Winder

Executive Coach

Dave Winder combines senior leadership experience at Year Up with a trusted track record coaching nonprofit CEOs, bringing a youth development perspective to setting strategic direction, strengthening leadership teams, and navigating consequential organizational decisions. With more than twenty years of coaching, management, and nonprofit leadership experience, he understands how to connect an ambitious mission with the people, resources, and execution needed to deliver it.

Dave has served as an executive coach, facilitator, and master trainer with New Sector Alliance since 2019. He has coached dozens of executives through New Sector’s Leadership Longevity program and has been a trusted coach and advisor to multiple nonprofit CEOs, including New Sector Alliance CEO Carly Janson. He also contributes to New Sector’s growth strategy, partnerships, and program innovation, bringing an active understanding of organizational leadership to his coaching.

At Year Up, Dave advanced from instructor and program manager to Academic Director and Interim Senior Director of Programs. He helped develop and lead programming that launched the careers of more than 1,000 young adults in the Washington, DC region. He led teams, developed staff, strengthened partnerships, and helped manage a $6.1 million site budget. Working closely with the Executive Director, he translated organizational priorities into staffing plans, program decisions, and measurable outcomes.

That progression gives Dave particular insight into leading an organization where relationships run deep, and responsibilities have expanded over time. He can help a CEO establish their own leadership approach, delegate with greater clarity, develop other leaders, and make difficult decisions while staying connected to the mission. His coaching combines reflection on vision and leadership philosophy with practical work on tough conversations, competing priorities, and management challenges.

Dave’s approach is grounded in collaborative and inclusive organizational cultures. He completed the Coaches Training Institute’s internationally recognized coaching program, participated in American Express and Bridgespan leadership programs, and is a certified Predictive Index analyst. He previously taught leadership development at Northern Virginia Community College and holds a BA in Economics from Hampton University and an MBA from American University.
