Carly Janson
Founder & CEO
Carly is the founder and CEO of New Sector Alliance. She founded New Sector as a volunteer program in 2000 and incorporated it as a 501(c)(3) in 2001 while she was an MBA student at Harvard Business School. She served as CEO from 2001 - 2013, re-joined the organization in 2017 as executive chair, and became CEO again in 2023. In addition to her role with New Sector, Carly is an experienced executive coach and leadership advisor for corporate CEOs, investors, and high-potential leaders.
Carly's career history includes serving as an executive coach and director of the Career Management Center at Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB); teaching leadership and career development courses at Harvard and Stanford; and working as a consultant and talent development expert at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Accenture, advising clients from Fortune 5 companies to public sector agencies. She also co-founded and led Stanford GSB’s Career and Life Design program in partnership with the Stanford Life Design Lab and Dave Evans, co-author of Designing Your Life.
Carly holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was awarded the Horace W. Goldsmith Fellowship for outstanding contributions to society. She earned her BA in Economics, magna cum laude, from Princeton University, where she received a senior thesis prize for her research on the future of healthcare. In her free time, Carly enjoys downhill skiing, food and wine, and spending time with family and friends at home and across the globe.
