A core element of New Sector’s mission is to provide opportunities for all levels of consultants - from senior partners to junior associates - to use their skills in a time efficient manner while giving back to society. New Sector is also dedicated to enabling consultants to develop new skills by guiding senior management at our social enterprise clients as well as talented students from our partner academic institutions. Consultants have several ways to get involved with New Sector:
- Part-time coaching and mentoring: Through our CASE teams and Summer Consultants & Fellows programs, consultants coach MBA or undergraduate students as they complete 10-14 consulting projects for social enterprise clients. Through our Residency in Social Enterprise program, consultants coach and mentor a client and recent college graduate for a 12 month period. For all programs, help guide the final phase of project scoping to ensure project success, provide input through weekly phone calls or meetings, ensure project stability by serving as a senior representative to the client, and receive support from a New Sector project liaison. The typical time commitment is 1-2 hours per week, though additional time reviewing documents before key presentations is often necessary.
- Professional development: Throughout the year, New Sector recruits experienced professionals to help us deliver training sessions and interactive workshops to our student and social enterprise stakeholders on key topics related to consulting, leadership, management, and career development. We also engage professionals to provide one-on-one career coaching sessions to our student program participants, social enterprise clients, and alumni.
- Secondments and externships: On occasion, New Sector offers full-time opportunities for consultants to get involved with our organization, either by participating in a custom consulting engagement for a social enterprise client, or by working on a high priority internal project designed to advance New Sector’s mission, build capacity, or share knowledge within the field of social enterprise.
