Summer Consultants and Fellows
New Sector matches competitively-selected undergraduates (Fellows) with full-time, 10-12 week summer positions at Boston-based social enterprises. Occasionally we have the opportunity to place MBA students (Summer Consultants) for summer engagements. Summer Consultants and Fellows work on-site to help their clients grow to new cities, finance new ventures, improve operations, and better serve constituents. New Sector ensures the quality of our summer projects though:
- Recruiting & Marketing - We leverage our brand to market these summer opportunities to thousands of students at leading academic institutions and hundreds of consultants at our partner consulting firms.
- Interviewing & Matching - During winter and spring, New Sector interviews qualified applicants. We then match Consultants and Fellows with clients based on mutual fit.
- Project Scoping & Work Plan Development - We work with client organizations to identify projects that will maximize impact for the client while best leveraging and developing the skills of Consultants and Fellows. Together, we develop project scopes and work plans that guide our Consultants and Fellows through their summer. Past projects have included researching new markets, identifying growth strategies, composing business plans, developing operational best practices, crafting marketing plans, conducting benchmarking analyses, and other client priorities.
- Training & Professional Development - Together with our professional and academic collaborators at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Bridgespan Group, Harvard Business School, McKinsey & Company, and the MIT Sloan School of Business, we deliver a comprehensive training and professional development program to all Consultants and Fellows. Our trainings begin during the first week of summer and continue every week to allow Consultants and Fellows to learn from the work of their peers.
- Mentoring - We provide Consultants and Fellows with mentors from our network of professional consultants. Mentors typically spend 1-2 hours a week helping guide the Consultant or Fellow through his or her project. Mentors are matched with Consultants and Fellows based on the expertise necessary to complete summer project.
- Compensation & Administration - New Sector conducts all necessary administrative paperwork to provide Consultants and Fellows with a living stipend and/or an education award. Additionally, we assist Consultants and Fellows in obtaining supplemental academic institution or federal Work Study funding if applicable.
