Case Teams unite teams of competitively selected students (typically all-MBA/graduate teams or mixed MBA/undergraduate teams) with social enterprises to complete semester-long consulting projects. Students receive academic credit for their work, and each team is supported by two professional consultants from Accenture, Bain & Company, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Bridgespan Group, McKinsey, or Oliver Wyman as well as a New Sector project liaison.
Each semester begins with our kickoff training, which includes a tutorial on consulting skills, a discussion of tools and analyses relevant to each project, and other relevant content. Throughout the semester, students are able to augment their training by accessing materials in New Sector’s proprietary Knowledge Base and utilizing their consultant coaches. In total, each student is expected to devote 8-12 hours per week to the engagement for 10-14 weeks during either the Fall or the Winter/Spring term. This equates to approximately 450 hours per project.
In general, clients meet weekly with their New Sector team to receive progress updates and discuss team findings. Clients receive a formal midterm and final presentation, as well as any other deliverables necessary for the implementation of the project.
All New Sector Case Team clients receive a significant discount due to the generous in kind donations of our consulting firm partners and the discounted rate of New Sector’s professional project management staff time. The total cost of hiring a Case Team ranges from $10,000 for an MBA/graduate team to $4,000 for an all-undergraduate team. Nonprofits with limited budgets can apply to New Sector's scholarship fund.
Case Team projects typically run from September-December or February-May. Organizations interested in hiring a Case Team should contact Jessica Lee at jlee@newsector.org or +1 617 488 4973.
